Primary Schools’ Sports Funding
Primary PE & Sport Premium - Objectives
To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport against 5 key indicators:
- The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles
- The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement
- Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
- Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
- Increased participation in competitive sport
Purpose of funding
Schools must spend the sport funding on improving provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. In 2025-26, Court Lane Juniors used this funding to:
- Develop our Forest School provision
- Pay for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
- Provide cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
- Run school sport competitions, such as Sports Day
- Enable children to take part in inter-school competitions like Dance Live and the Portsmouth Schools' football tournaments
- Buy quality assured teaching materials and scheme for PE/sport
How much funding has the school received?
- 2024-24 - £20,800
- 2025-26 - £20,670
How has Court Lane Junior spent the PE and Sport Premium Funding and what is the impact?
At Court lane Junior, we believe that the money must be used so that all children benefit, regardless of sporting ability. Please see the PDF below for how the funding has been spent for the latest academic year .
Swimming
From 2017, there has been a new condition requiring schools to publish how many pupils are meeting the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, using a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations. Please see the PDF below for swimming statistics for our Year 6 cohort.
